What Surgeons Do
Surgery is a field of medicine that relates to diagnosing, treating and managing injuries, diseases and disorders using surgical and non-surgical procedures.
A Surgeon’s main role is performing operations to ease or fix injuries or remove diseases such as cancer.
However, they also provide pre-surgical diagnosis and help identify non-surgical treatments as alternative strategies to combat disease, injury or illness.
Surgeons typically work in both hospitals and private practices. They also typically remain on call for a significant amount of time they are not working.

General Surgeons are concerned with the comprehensive surgical care of patients. General Surgeons are typically the first specialists to see a patient after they are referred for surgery, and is responsible for investigating which surgical procedures may be required. They then either perform the surgery themselves, or in complicated cases may refer on to a more specialised surgeon.

Neurosurgeons offer both surgical and non-surgical solutions to problems associated with these areas.
